Disposition Summary:
NOTE: The ISO 639-6 Language Codes standard currently being developed is creating a registry for language dialects right down to the work group level within an organization. This registry will be able to be used as a registry for each speech community (and its dialect).
The resolution to Issue 9952 covers the verbal distinction point of this issue (number 2) because it has 'term' and 'name' as verbal designations, and then adds nonverbal designation following ISO-1087-1's lead.
1. Remove 'symbol' and replace all references to it with 'designation'.
2. Remove or change the fact types 'symbol' participates in.
3. Add 'subject field' as an adopted concept from ISO 1087-1.
4. Relate 'symbol context' and 'subject field' to representations and vocabulary namespaces.
5. Add 'nonverbal designation' and have 'icon' specialize it.
6. Correct the discussion of "Qualifier" in Annex C to discuss "subject field" (in place of "subject context").
7. Relate a subject field to a vocabulary (as is implied by ISO 1087-1's definition of vocabulary). -
