Summary:
the description suggests that an operational node “realises” capability,
which tends to give a rather physical slant to nodes. In MODAF (and DoDAF) operational
nodes are logical representations of the usage (or requirement for) capability in an
architecture. The realising systems are shown in the SVs (in MODAF, people and
organizations may also be part of the realisation). The physical aspect of UPDM’s
OperationalNode is reinforced by the enumeration NodeType, which allows an
OperationalNode to be an organization or type of organization. This is strictly against the
rules in MODAF, and probably against the original intent of DoDAF (though CADM does
allow it, and it is commonly found in DoDAF architectures). -
