Summary:
ยท It is difficult to see the difference between a service as it is being implemented as well as a service as it is being described. Using an extension of Port also seems strange if is to be possible to actually describe a service functionality in an implementation independent manner. The proposed MODAF/ accepted NAF views for services make distinguishes between the description of a service and how it could be implemented. The description of a service is however much more than a single port. The exposed service port containing the service interface is important. A service taxonomy as well as classification is equally important. Composition as well as description of the service achievement is equally important. It is therefore felt that the parts dealing with services in UPDM might well await further definition of a meta-model for services once this is adopted by OMG.
