SYSPHS12 — Overlapping Connectors in iBDs can give false impression of shared channel (and implied sum of flow)

  • Key: SYSPHS12-11
  • Status: open
  • Source: Webel IT Australia ( Darren Kelly)
  • Summary:

Advise against diagramming style used in examples Figure 68 and Figure 69, which show overlapping Connectors in Internal Block Diagrams

In Figure 68: Internal structure of the humidifier, from a Port named vapourOut.

In Figure 69: Internal structure of the vapor generation plant, from a Port named temperatureOut.

This can give a false impression of shared channel (and implied sum of flow).

In the case of electrical current, the lines drawn that way indeed by convention imply currents meeting a node, whereas in the SysML diagram there is no node at all.
