Summary:
InformationElements should be able to play a dual role. They should be able to provide (contain) information content to be used ‘in line’ within an Argumentation structure, or be used to refer (cite) to a container of evidence outside of the (current) Argumentation structure. At present, only the latter role is described in SACM 1.0.
Regarding the interface between the Argumentation and Evidence aspects of SACM, at present SACM 1.0 only allows an InformationElement to refer to an EvidenceItem. However, there are other classes within the Evidence part of SACM (e.g. EvidenceContainer) that it should also be possible to reference.
The current CitationElement has dual roles. This element can be used to refer to a specific ArgumentationElement within an Argumentation structure, or can be used to refer to an entire Argumentation structure as a container. It is desirable (for clearer semantics) to simplify to a single role per ArgumentationElement subtype. -
