Summary:
The DDS specification states a Topic name is a string but it does not state what the legal characters are. It would therefore be possible to use "unprintable" characters which could create difficulties with printing and logginf messages.
Because of this it is also possible for multiple vendors to put in place restrictions that could cause incompatibilities. For this reason it is desirable that the specification states with characters are legal within a Topic name.
In addition RTPS version 2.2 defines TopicName as string<256> this should also be reflected in DDS.
