    Some people have been confused reading the specification with regards
    to the "total" counts and whether they accumulate.

    For example, whether the "deadline count" accumulates missed
    deadlines. That is, each deadline-time period that passes without an
    instance being written increments the deadline count even if the
    application does not have time to read the status
