Summary:
Summary: Does anyone know why the CosObjectIdentity::ObjectIdentifier was changed
from "typedef sequence<octet,16>" to "typedef unsigned long"? This
happened some time ago between the 3/94 and 3/95 versions of the
CosRelationships specification. It seems odd since the earlier version could support the 128 bit UUIDs
used in DCE and the 128 bit GUIDs found in Microsoft but the current
version is only one quarter the size. Also, all available literature I
can find on the topic indicates that the 128 bit version is necessary
for uniqueness "across space and time". In large distributed object
environments, I don"t think the 32 bit version will cut it. -
