Summary:
Allow event-based gateways to have outgoing conditional flows. Section 10.6.6 of the BPMN specification v2.0.2 states that “The outgoing sequence flows of the event gateway must not have a conditional expression”. I suggest that this clause be changed because an initiating event-based gateway is an excellent way to model, for example, a menu, where not all items on a menu are available all the time (as they might depend upon user roles or the application’s state). With outgoing conditional flows from the event-based gateway this situation can be modelled easily. Of course modelling a menu is only one such scenario, and I appreciate that the conditions to be applied to the conditional flows could instead be applied to the events following the event-based gateway, but the use of conditional flows is simply a cleaner implementation.
