BPMN2 — Section 10.2.8 [Execution Semantics] Loops: Loop names misleading

  • Key: BPMN2-205
  • Legacy Issue Number: 14789
  • Status: closed
  • Source: SAP SE ( Rouven Day)
  • Summary:

The names "Standard Loop" and "Multi Instance Loop" are misleading. Actually both allow for creation of a desired number of Activity instances, not just Multi Instance Loops as the spec text states it. So the multiple instance characteristics is true for all loops, also Standard Loops. Thus the naming of the loop types is very misleading.

Proposal: Go for the well known names (<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Control_flow#Loops">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Control_flow#Loops</a>). Rename Standard Loop to Condition-controlled Loop (or Conditional Loop or Condition-based Loop). Also find a better name for Multi Instance Loop. I´ll try to post some name proposals soon.
