Clause 7 Language Description is non-normative and is intended as an informative description of the language. The use of the name "star" for the symbol "*" by modelers is so much more common than "asterisk" that to use the latter instead would likely be confusing. Note that the symbol "*" is not actually named anywhere else in the document other than in Table 3 of 7.5.1 as noted in the issue.
