Summary:
Consider a library of reusable elements, such as part definitions with associated ports. To ensure quality elements are kept in the library, a standard for both the graphical representation and the element specification are enforced by a company. One of the enforcements is placement of ports aligned to a grid, and sizing of the graphical representation to match the grid spacing. This ensures that when diagrams are created, the bends of any relationship are rectilinear and aligned (or alignable) to the same grid. To accomplish this, the placement of ports on the element edge should be centered on the grid point and only permitted to move from grid point to grid point.
It would be nice if the library would store both the model element and the expected graphical information required for a tool to enforce consistent rendering.
