SYSML21 — Usage of icons as symbols for part usages and other elements

Is there a convention for using icons or graphics to represent a part usage? For example, to recreate the classic DoDAF Operational View 1 (OV-1), the operational entities would be replaced by icons of the systems participating in operations, and associations or communication relationship between entities would be replaced by lightning bolts.

Ideally, both vector graphics types (e.g. SVG) and raster graphics types (e.g. PNG) would be supported.
