Summary:
In UML and SysML v1 a connector that is used to connect two ports can be a direct connection what is drawn vertically between one port and another.
The semantics does not differ if it is a direct connection or an orthogonal bented line. SysML user are often electrical or mechanical engineers and they are trained to draw connections between inputs and outputs in an orthogonal way. So why not make this the default connector shape in SysML for all connectors use to connect two ports together?
Another advice would be to round the corner where the connector is bented. This would avoid misunderstandings when you zoom into a diagram. You can directly recognize that this a connector and not a corner of a component for example. Such a connector style is used as default in the BPMN 2.0 notation and it produces very readable diagrams. -
