KERML11 — Model-level evaluable value of annotatedElement for AnnotatingElements

  • Key: KERML11-217
  • Status: open
  • Source: Model Driven Solutions ( Mr. Ed Seidewitz)
  • Summary:
    1. The model-level evaluation of a MetadataAccessExpression (operator meta) returns a set of MetadataFeatures for a referencedElement, including

      ...a MetadataFeature whose annotatedElement is the
      referencedElement, whose metaclass is the reflective Metaclass corresponding to the MOF class of the referencedElement and whose ownedFeatures are bound to the values of the MOF properties of the
      referencedElement.

      (See the operation evaluate in 8.3.4.8.15 MetadataAccessExpression.)

    2. An AnnotatingElement has annotatedElement as one of its MOF properties (se 8.3.2.3.2 AnnotatingElement). In the reflective model KerML.kerml, AnnotatingElement::annotatedElement redefines Metaobject::annotatedElement (see 9.2.17 KerML, item 2, last bullet).
    3. Therefore, the model-level evaluation of a MetadataAccessExpression on an AnnotatingElement will produce a MetadataFeature whose annotatingElement is set the referencedElement, not the value actual in the abstract syntax. For example, given
      structure S;
      comment C about S;

      The model-level value of the expression "(C meta KerML::Comment).annotatedElement" is C, while the likely expectation is that it should be S.
